  1. World Coconut Day is annually celebrated on 2 September to promote the importance of coconuts and understand the benefits of this fruit and their contributions to various aspects of life, including the economy, agriculture and health.
  2. The Managing Committee of the Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC) has appointed Umesh Revankar, who is presently serving as the Executive Vice Chairman for Shriram Finance Limited, as the new Chairman of FIDC. 
  3. Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana has been appointed as a member of the International Mediator Panel of Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC).
  4. Assam Cabinet has taken a step by creating four new districts that were previously abolished last year in December. With the addition of these new districts, Assam’s total district count will reach 35. The newly formed districts are Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur and Bajali.
  5. Jaipur’s Priyan Sain clinched the title of Miss Earth India 2023 during the Miss Divine Beauty 2023 national final held on 26 August, 2023 in New Delhi.
  6. Akashvani, India’s national public radio broadcaster, organized a special event on 28 August, 2023 in New Delhi as part of the Know India Programme (KIP), an initiative under the aegis of Ministry of External Affairs.  
  7. In a significant move aimed at bolstering collaboration in the field of civil aviation, the Governments of India and New Zealand have recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding which encompasses a wide array of aspects within the aviation sector, ranging from the introduction of new flight routes to code share services, traffic rights, and capacity entitlement.
  8. India, as the current Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) and the G20, is set to host the first-ever Global India AI 2023 Summit on 14 and 15 October, 2023.
  9. IFS officer Mridul Kumar, presently Ambassador of India to Switzerland, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to Liechtenstein.
  10. The State Bank of India (SBI) has taken a significant step towards enhancing financial inclusivity and social welfare by introducing an innovative Customer Service Points (CSPs) functionality which allows customers to seamlessly enrol in essential social security schemes using just their Aadhaar cards.
  11. Union Minister Jitendra Singh provided a significant update on the progress of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s Gaganyaan mission, stating that trials for the mission will commence in October.
  12. President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Lieutenant General (Retired) Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi.
  13. In a significant event held at the Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Centre in Bhopal, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj S. Chauhan, unveiled books on the speeches of PM Narendra Modi titled ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ which focus on Prime Minister Modi’s inspiring speeches, emphasizing unity, development and trust.
  14. Dr Sonali Ghosh, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Assam, is the first woman to have taken over as Director of Kaziranga National Park.
  15. Nagarnar Steel Plant has achieved an unprecedented milestone as the plant mere 9 days after commencing hot metal production, has successfully rolled out its inaugural Hot Rolled (HR) Coil.
  16. Veteran Hindi film lyricist Dev Kohli passed away in Mumbai on 26 August, 2023 at the age of 80.
